Sasaoka Yuriko at the Shiga Museum of Art

The Shiga Museum of Art announces a major solo retrospective for Sasaoka Yuriko, to open on January 17, 2026. “Sasaoka Yuriko’s Paradise Dungeon” will feature early video installations, including those from the museum’s collection, alongside new commissions.

Sasaoka Yuriko's Works Acquired by Various Collections

Various works from Sasaoka Yuriko’s recent solo exhibition “Animale” have been acquired by private and institutional collections. Working Koala - Blue (2025) has been adopted into the Akeroyd Collection and Working Horse - Brown (2025) will travel to Zhi Foundation. Other recent acquisitions include LOVERS, which will enter the collection of the Shiga Museum of Art.

Christopher K. Ho's Work Acquired by East Hotel, Hong Kong

A sculpture by Christopher K. Ho has been acquired by EAST Hotel in Hong Kong. The work will be permanently installed at the main entrance of the building in Tai Koo Shing. It was first displayed at Art Basel Hong Kong 2025 in the Encounters sector, curated by Alexie Glass-Kantor.

Luo Jr-shin at Michael Ku Gallery, Taipei

A solo show by Luo Jr-Shin, “Tomato seeds germinate through the body,” is currently on view at Michael Ku gallery in Taipei. Featuring recent sculptural works within large-scale spatial installations, the exhibition touches on processes of sewage, fertilizations, and growth. The project was commissioned by the 7th Changwon Sculpture Biennale, and the show runs through July 19, 2025.

Zheng Mahler at the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp

Zheng Mahler will participate in the group show “The Geopolitics of Infrastructure. Contemporary Perspectives” at the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA), opening June 13, 2025. As part of the exhibition programming, they will also take part in a research summit, taking place from June 14-21 at M HKA.

Zheng Mahler's Work Acquired by M+

Zheng Mahler's multi-part project "What is it like to be a (virtual) bat?" (2022–23) has been acquired by M+ museum in Hong Kong. Various portions of the projects have been shown at Kunsthalle Mainz, Germany; PHD Group and M+ museum, Hong Kong; West Bund Art Museum, Shanghai; and Seoul Mediacity Biennale, Seoul. The prolect was commissioned by the institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, Germany.

Chan Ting at Tai Po Arts Centre

Chan Ting is showcasing Daydreaming Birdwatching House, a new audio-visual installation at Tai Po Arts Centre for “Arts in the City,” a public initiative presented by HKADC. The installation features a wooden house and a new experimental film inspired by Lam Tsuen, where the artist currently lives and works. In conjunction with the artwork, a special performance featuring Chan Ting and Cantonese Opera practitioner Rose Li Zi-rui is scheduled for April 19 and 26, 2025.

Michele Chu and Chan Ting at Inside-Out Art Museum, Beijing

Michele Chu and Chan Ting are participating in “It Always Sounds Somewhere,” a group exhibition at Inside-Out Art Museum, Beijing. Curated by Dr. Edward Sanderson, the exhibition explores the history and evolution of sound practice in Mainland China and Hong Kong from the 1990s to the present. The exhibition is on view from February 22 to June 1, 2025.

Sasaoka Yuriko at Tokyo Odaiba Triennale 2025

Sasaoka Yuriko will participate in the 2025 edition of the Tokyo Odaiba Triennale. Set in various locations across Odaiba, the Triennale features 40 artists including Yayoi Kusama, Abraham Poincheval, and Lu Yang. The Triennale is on view from October 18 to December 25.

Lee Eunsae at Paris Cité Residence

Lee Eunsae has been selected as a 2025 resident of the Cité Residence in Paris. Supported by the Samsung Cultural Foundation, the six-month residency program starts in October 2025. Lee will use this opportunity to further her research in Korean folktales.

Michele Chu Performance at Para Site

In conjunction with the exhibition "The Embrace and the Passage" at Para Site’s 10/F space, Michele Chu presented Ghost of Raspberry, a series of participatory performances created in collaboration with sound artist Lam Yip and food designer Alison Tan. Drawing from her immersive installation rocking cradles, wet blankets, the performance blended ritual, food, sound, scent, and environment to explore communal and gastronomic grief. The performances took place from December 6–8.

PHD Group is pleased to announce our collaboration with Abraham & Wolff, Paris for the group exhibition “Cabinet Cabinet Curiosity Curiosity” at Abraham & Wolff, Paris. Curated by PHD Group, the exhibition features works by Michele Chu, Chan Ting, Sasaoka Yuriko, Magdalen Wong, Xi Jiu and Zheng Mahler. The exhibition runs from December 6, 2024 to January 11, 2025.

Michele Chu at Para Site

Michele Chu debuted a new immersive installation at Para Site’s 10/F space for the exhibition “The Embrace and the Passage,” curated by Jessie Kwok. Chu assumes the role of host by designing an immersive installation that envelops and disorients the senses to lead the audience into an interactive stage for happenings. Performance artists Florence Lam, Monique Yim and Bunny Cadag, reimagines the role of guest by presenting live works within and beyond Chu’s installation. The exhibition opened on November 2, and runs through February 23, 2025

Chan Ting’s work Moss Wonders (🛶), generated from the artist’s residency at Para Site earlier this year, was on view at the Asia Art Archive auction preview at H Queens. The preview was on view from October 23 to November 1.

Zheng Mahler in the Asian Cocoa Project

Zheng Mahler will participate in the Hong Kong iteration of the traveling group exhibition “In Stranger Lands - Cocoa’s Journey to Asia,” curated by Caroline Ha Thuc. Staged earlier this year in Vietnam, the exhibition delves into the multiple narratives of Asian cocoa and chocolate. The exhibition will be on view at Tang Contemporary from October 17 to November 14.

Christopher K. Ho at Asia Society Texas

Asia Society Texas opens the group show “Space City: Art in the Age of Artemis” on October 17 with a work by Christopher K. Ho. Curated by Owen Duffy, the exhibition centers the institution’s context in Houston, Texas as a site of outer space exploration and curiosity. The exhibition is on view through March 16, and also features work by James Clar, Alicja Kwade, and Trevor Paglen.

Sasaoka Yuriko at Omotesando Crossing Park

Sasaoka Yuriko recently unveiled a large-scale outdoor installation LOVERS at Omotesando Crossing Park in Shibuya, Tokyo. The work features the artist’s eyes, nose and mouth in a collaged video paying homage to the artist’s pet cat and a special trip to the vet that resulted in the removal of his testicles. The work was on view from August 15 to 26.

Michele Chu at Para Site

Michele Chu is currently participating in a research residency at Para Site alongside artists Florence Lam and Monique Yim. The artists are conducting field research in and around Para Site’s 10/F space in preparation for an upcoming exhibition curated by Jessie Kwok. A public program featuring a range of participatory happenings was hosted on Aug 7. In which all creative exchanges between visitors and artists were documented anonymously to inspire the artists’ upcoming project.

Zheng Mahler at Seoul Museum of Art

Zheng Mahler will be screening their work What is it like to be a (virtual) bat? Phase III at Seoul Museum of Art as a part of the Seoul Mediacity pre-biennale program. Yuko Mohri’s solo exhibition “Moré and Moré” is now on view at Aranya Art Center. Zheng Mahler at Ilmin Museum of Art

Zheng Mahler is currently presenting “Nostalgia Machines” in the group exhibition “Foreverism:Endless Horizons” at Ilmin Museum of Art, Seoul. Supported by Kukje Gallery, Arts Council Korea, and Hyundai Sungwoo Holdings, the exhibition examines the concept of Foreverism, and how contemporary visual culture responds to this consumerist exploitation of nostalgia. Sasaoka Yuriko at Hyakunengo Art Festival

Sasaoka Yuriko recently unveiled 3 new installation works in Hyakunengo Art Festival, a commemorative project celebrating the 150th year anniversary of the Chiba Prefecture. The festival features 100 Japanese and international artists including Yayoi Kusama and Yuko Mohri, showing artworks across various locations in the Chiba Prefecture. Sasaoka’s work is on view in Ichihara City from March 23 to May 26.

Chan Ting is currently participating in “Hung Up on You”, a group exhibition at Ping Pong Gintonería in Hong Kong. The exhibition features paintings, drawings, video installations, sculptures and marks the 10th anniversary of the bar. Sasaoka Yuriko presented her new work “Animale” in the 31st edition of “VOCA The Vision of Contemporary Art Exhibition” at The Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo. Sasaoka Yuriko is also named the winner of “VOCA Honorable Mention Award” in this year’s edition.

Virtue Village at SHOWCASE

Virtue Village will be participating in “Beyond the Singularity,” a group exhibition curated by Issac Leung and presented by Hong Kong Arts Development Council. The exhibition aims at pushing the boundaries of artists’ practices by introducing them to artificial intelligence through workshops, months-long tutorials, and collaboration with artificial intelligence experts. Announcing Supper Club, initiated by PHD Group and THE SHOPHOUSE

Supper Club is a week-long event in Hong Kong’s annual art month that aims to disrupt the conventional art fair paradigm and reinvent the art selling and socialising experience. Initiated by Hong Kong gallerists Willem Molesworth and Ysabelle Cheung from PHD Group, and Alex Chan from THE SHOPHOUSE, the event focuses on emerging and experimental presentations curated by Anqi Li and will also include live performances and panel talks. The event will take place in Fringe Club, a Grade I heritage building and also the co-organiser of the event. The event runs from March 25 to 30, and features 20 international and regional galleries. PHD Group represents Chan Ting

PHD Group is happy to announce the exclusive representation of Chan Ting, a Hong Kong-based multidisciplinary artist working in installation, video, and performance. Chan’s works have been exhibited in Tai Kwun Contemporary and HART Haus, among other venues. She is currently the resident artist at Para Site’s 10/F space and will open a solo show there on January 27.

Wong Kit Yi at The Kitchen

Wong Kit Yi is currently screening her karaoke-lecture-performance “Dial 432 to See the Light" (2022) in “On Screen,” an online program organized by The Kitchen and curated by Alison Burstein. The work was made during the artist’s residency at The Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, and is now revisited as a research project in partnership with The Kitchen and Lofoten International Art Festival - LIAF 2024. A selection of materials from The Kitchen’s archive, annotated by the artist, accompanies the video.

Zheng Mahler at Oil Street Art Space

Zheng Mahler recently premiered a new digital commission, "Beyond the Noosphere," (2023) at Oil Street Art Space in Hong Kong. Organized by artist Ng Tsz Kwan, the work engages in artificial intelligence to narrate the geological and historical layers present in our landscape, and is included in the exhibition “The Digital Cuboid: Virtual Realm." The exhibition runs through early 2024.

Zheng Mahler commission at KW Institute for Contemporary Art

Zheng Mahler recently unveiled "The Master Algorithm: Redux," a new website project, commissioned by KW Institute for Contemporary Art. The project reimagines a 2019 work by the artists, "The Master Algorithm," which employed an avatar of the AI newsreader Qiu Hao, released in 2018 by China’s state news agency, to voice speculations concerning the cultural, economic, and political implications of AI development in the country. The new commissions contains texts by scholars on technology and AI, including Shuang Frost, Vincent Garton, Bogna Konior, Dino Zhang, and Xin Wang.

Zheng Mahler at West Bund Museum

Zheng Mahler will screen two recent video works at “Pixel Row,” a video program curated by Anqi Li at West Bund Museum, Shanghai. The works are taken from the artist duo's long term, research-based project “What is it like to be a (virtual) bat?” originally commissioned by IFA Germany and recently shown at Kunsthalle Mainz. The West Bund Museum program runs through November 8 and also includes video work by Yu Araki and Pan Lu.

Wong Kit Yi at M+ Cinema

Cas Wong (Virtue Village) at Tomorrow Maybe

Cas Wong, one half of the artist duo Virtue Village, recently unveiled a new site-specific installation “Who’s That Girl?” at the group exhibition “Welcome >_< Take a Seat Wherever (cringe vibing on a downward spiral)” at Tomorrow Maybe, Eaton. The work explores how Gen-Z uses “virtue signalling” as a response to social and political changes and is curated by Angela Liu as part of HART Haus' curatorial incubation program.

Virtue Village performance at "More than Human" festival

Virtue Village recently unveiled a new lecture performance, "Pyromoan," commissioned for "More than Human," a festival-exhibition hybrid organized by Dossier and taking place across Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou. The work explores, among other themes, the history of fire and post-humanism, inspired by Ihab Hassan's essay “Prometheus as Performer: Toward a Posthumanist Culture?"

Lee Eunsae at Rijksakademie Amsterdam

Lee Eunse will be in residence at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam from 2023 to 2024, joining 20 residents selected by a jury of arts professionals, including artists Ho Tzu Nyen and Banu Cennetoğlu. During her residency, she aims to explore the materiality of painting, focusing on gestural markings and sculptural forms.

Michele Chu will be in residence at London's Delfina Foundation from October to December, as part of their "Performance as Process" program. Continuing her research, she will in her residency explore intimacy, loss, and grief through mediums of food and multisensory performance.

Christopher K. Ho in two summer shows

Christopher K. Ho will unveil new works at two group exhibitions this summer: at Art Intelligence Global in Hong Kong (opening July 7) and CHART in New York (opening July 12). The CHART exhibition takes as its starting point the concept of a belly ache, or a somatic discomfort that reveals political or social anxieties, while the AIG exhibition explores the liminal spaces of hotels.

Yuko Mohri to represent Japan in 2024 Venice Biennale

Japan has appointed Yuko Mohri to create a new large-scale commission for the 60th edition of the Venice Biennale, slated to run from 20 April to 24 November, 2024. Mohri's presentation will reference pressing matters of contemporary society, including the pandemic and recent climate protests. The pavilion will be overseen by Sook-Kyung Lee, senior curator of international art at the Tate Modern.

Sasaoka Yuriko wins 2023 Mercedez-Benz Japan Art Scope Prize

Sasaoka Yuriko is named the winner of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz Japan Art Scope Prize. The prize is awarded annually to a Japanese or European artist in an effort to facilitate cross-cultural exchange between the two places. Sasaoka Yuriko will embark on a three-month residency in Berlin with the support of the prize, during which she will create a new work related to animal fables and the Enlightenment.

Zheng Mahler at Helsinki Biennial

Zheng Mahler was recently announced as one of the 29 participants in the forthcoming Helsinki Biennial. Titled "New Directions May Emerge," the biennial is curated by Joasia Krysa and explores alternative modes of living, while investigating themes of technology, environment, and political conflict.

The biennial opens on 12 June and runs through 17 September, 2023.

Zheng Mahler at Kunsthalle Mainz, Germany

We are delighted to announce Zheng Mahler’s participation in “What is it like to be a Bat?,” a group exhibition hosted at Kunsthalle Mainz and curated by Yasmin Afschar, opening March 17.

The artist duo will present findings from their project “What is it like to be a (virtual) bat?, in which longterm research into philosophical and anthropological questions around non-human entities—in this case, the bat— is explored with new technologies. In the exhibition, research videos and printed matter will accompany a guided meditation in virtual reality and immersive video installation.

Wong Kit Yi performs at Tate Modern

On April 6, Tate Modern and Wong Kit Yi will present "Inner Voice Transplant," a karaoke lecture performance first commissioned and shown at the FRONT Triennial. The performance takes place as part of a two-day film program that also includes Diane Nguyen Severin and Tao Hui. The performance is followed by a discussion between the artist and curators.

Zheng Mahler presents "Green Crab" video game

On Monday, February 13, the Singapore Art Museum, Zheng Mahler, and architectural historian Ian Tan will present a live twitch stream exploring Singapore as depicted in the video game “The Green Crab: A Virtual Diagram of Auspicious Spatial Organization."

“The Green Crab” video game is a continuation of a project by Zheng Mahler in which they explore “a speculative feng shui map of Singapore which provides an alternative guide for navigating the city.” The stream will include a discussion between the artists and SAM curator Duncan Bass.

Zheng Mahler will present pieces from their 2013-16 series “A Season in Shell” in the upcoming group exhibition “Multispecies Clouds” at the Macalline Art Center in Beijing. Virtue Village in Sunpride Foundation exhibition of queer art

Virtue Village will participate in "Myth Makers—Spectrosynthesis III," a monumental exhibition of queer art featuring over 50 artists from Asia and its diasporas held at Tai Kwun's JC Contemporary. Curated by Inti Guerrero and Chantal Wong, and co-presented by Sunpride Foundation, the exhibition aims to address "“queer mythologies”, who highlight either same-sex love and desire or gender fluidity as found in ancient belief systems and traditions in Asia." The show opens on December 24, 2022.

Announcing "Flèche" at the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong

Michele Chu in "Yu Chau Street Temporary Playground"

“Please Touch” (2022), a new site specific installation by Michele Chu, is on view through August 7 as part of a group exhibition organized by 135YCS, “Yu Chau Street Temporary Playground.” Installed between a bus stop and a Sham Shui Po storefront, the piece investigates the interstitial spaces of private and public spheres, and invites passers-by and strangers to engage with one another.

Wong Kit Yi participates in the FRONT Triennial

A new karaoke lecture performance by Wong Kit Yi, “Inner Voice Transplant” (2022), is now on view at the Samson Pavilion at Case Western Reserve University, as part of the FRONT Triennial in Cleveland. Inspired by the artist’s research in Akron and Cleveland, the work takes as its starting point the world’s first voice-box transplant, which took place in 1998 at Cleveland Clinic.

Christopher K Ho mounts installation at Vancouver Art Gallery

The monumental, outdoor installation "CX 889" by Christopher K Ho is now on view at Vancouver Art Gallery's Offsite location. Guest curated by Godfre Leung, the installation freezes in time the period just before Hong Kong's handover from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China by restaging fragments of Kai Tai Airport, which closed in 1998.

Yuko Mohri participates in Ludwig Museum group show

"Extended Present - Transient Realities" opened April 8 at Ludwig Museum featuring the work of Yuko Mohri alongside Hiwa K, Mika Rottenberg, Jill Magid and Dane Mitchell, among others. On view through September 4, the show explores the "permanent transience that we experience today, both on a global and personal level."

Zheng Mahler's large-scale installation launches at SAM

The Green Crab: A Diagram of Auspicious Spatial Organization can now be viewed at the Singapore Art Museum's Bras Basah Road and Queen Street sites. Created in collaboration with Singaporean architectural historian Ian Tan and One Bite Design Studio, the work looks past the "functional modernity of the city-state," and "reveals the hidden qi flows of the “spiritual state” woven into the fabric of Singapore’s master plan for urban development."

Yuko Mohri participates in the 23rd Biennale of Sydney

Yuko Mohri participates in the 23rd Biennale of Sydney with a series of Moré Moré (Leaky) installations. Inspired by the ad hoc assemblages in train stations and other public areas, designed to stop temporary leaks, Mohri created a set of systems that similarly control the flow of water. "To me," she says. "they looked like different approaches to sculpting – they were treasure houses of inspiration."

Michele Chu in "Emo Gym" at Tai Kwun Contemporary

A new seven-meter-long site-specific installation by Michele Chu is on view at "Emo Gym" at Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hong Kong. Curated by Erin Li, "Emo Gym" aims to "confront, dissect, and possibly embrace the vulnerability of our times." Chu presents inti-gym (2021) as an extension of her ongoing research into intimacy and ritual practices.

Yuko Mohri participates in Sense Island festival

Yuko Mohri’s work “I Can’t Hear You” comprises two speakerphones in a long tunnel that respond and overlap in sound. A reference to the miscommunications of politicians and ideologies, the work plays on the idea of sound loss, echo, and repetition. The work is currently on view at the recently opened Sense Island festival on Sarushima, a small deserted island featuring the remains of Batteries from the Meiji period.

Wong Kit Yi completes residency at Chinati Foundation

Wong Kit Yi recently completed a two-month residency in Marfa with Chinati Foundation, home to a contemporary art museum and collection of works by founder Donald Judd. Her work at Chinati builds on a recent project, Hong Kong Weather Modification Office (Square cloud) (2019).

Christopher K. Ho features on ArtReview's Power 100 list, alongside Claire Hsu and John Tain, for their collective work at Asia Art Archive. Sasaoka Yuriko opens solo exhibition at TRAFO Center for Contemporary Art

Luo Jr-Shin opens solo exhibition at Taipei Fine Arts Museum

Luo Jr-Shin's solo exhibition “Like a Urinal in a Nightclub” is the artist's largest solo project to date. Transforming the Museum into a nightclub, the exhibition is the culmination of a decade's worth of artistic exploration and makes use of scent, sound, light, texture, poetry and large-scale installations.
