Zheng Mahler

profile

Formed by artist Royce Ng and anthropologist Daisy Bisenieks, Zheng Mahler (est. 2009, based on Lantau Island, Hong Kong) create digital media, objects, and performance works, grounding their practice in long-term, research-based projects. Examining the broader interactions between nature and technology, Zheng Mahler engage in speculative encounters—such as a city’s memory wiped out by a nostalgia algorithm—and interspecies empathy, with a focus on more than human experiences.

Zheng Mahler have shown work at and completed major commissions for KW Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin); Helsinki Biennial 2023; Kunsthalle Mainz (Mainz); Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (IFA) (Germany); Johann Jacobs Museum (Zurich); Akademie der Künste der Welt (Cologne); Performa 15 (New York); Para Site (Hong Kong); Tai Kwun Contemporary (Hong Kong); 13th Shanghai Biennale; Singapore Art Museum (Singapore), UCCA Dune (Beidaihe), and West Bund Museum (Shanghai). Their work is in the collection of M+ (Hong Kong), IFA (Germany), Fosun Foundation (Shanghai), Cc Foundation (Shanghai), Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (Hamburg), Johann Jacobs Museum (Zurich), and more.
